Womberdown Tennis Group Interview

By Interviewer at 10/22/07 10:23

Name of your website?

Womberdown Tennis Group

Your name?

Sandra Lie

Your Location (city, etc)

Sydney

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Sydney based lesbian tennis group, Womberdown Tennis, promotes and organises social tennis games for the lesbian community in Sydney. Regular social games held at Camperdown Tennis Courts

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I started organising the social tennis group and thought a website would be a nice way of sharing things like photos, results and event information.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In the last 2 weeks.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

After we came back from a holiday at Wombeyan Caves. There were some dodgy tennis courts there and it was on the trip back in the car that we decided to make up a name for the group. Simply because the home courts were at Camperdown.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Well, there's not much competition to start with, and we offer competitive matches whilst providing a strong social aspect to the club.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To be well known amongst the Gay and Lesbian sporting community and to see the members grow in numbers.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We've started growing in numbers.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I think so. We have a strong team of members and players who are willing to put in the extra effort should the club go much bigger.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None really at this stage. Just time.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Trying to get the website easily found in google search engines. I'm not too savvy on SEO.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth and listing on forums/blogs.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Well I wasn't initially expecting many people to view the site, but I think the numbers are increasing.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has only been running for 2 weeks now. Still very new.

What is your website address?

Womberdown Tennis Group
