Extreme Sports Trader Interview

By Interviewer at 12/12/09 06:07

Name of your website?

Extreme Sports Trader

Your name?

Duncan Heath

Your Location (city, etc)

Sussex

Please give us a short summary of your website?

It is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell their second-hand or trade extreme sports equipment in the UK

What inspired you to launch your own website?

There was a massive gap in the market and demand from those in the industry

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is the one (2008)

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted something that did what it said on the tin

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

There are no others, as far as I'm aware anyway.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To increase the profile of extreme sports in the UK and for the site to become an adrenaline seeker's mecca

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It's a hard slog but the response has been great and continues to grow each day

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Development should not be about money, it should be about thoughtful and measured progression, based on what you actually NEED. Which at the moment, is nothing

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

The site was programmed for this requirement and has coped so far, so yes

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

contacting people to ask if they like the site and would mind linking to it. never underestimate communication

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

A lot more time-consuming

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I guess a relatively short amount of time (6 months) but have no plans to stop

What is your website address?
