cycling over Mont Ventoux with Tom Simpson's picture and a good bike
08/03/09 16:06
Bradley Wiggins rode up to Mont Ventoux with a photo of England's greatest stage racer, Tom Simpson, attached to his bike frame. He said before he went on the ride on Saturday that he believes the spirit of Simpson was with him as well. He would lend his support to Wiggins, should he falter.
Just about three kilometers from the tip of the mountain is where Wiggins would pass the monument to Simpson. It was erected where he collapsed and died during a tour, more than four decades ago.
